Siders Pond Day.4

This was our last day out on the pond recording the data we found.  This is going to be my last blog for the summer. On my last day out at the pond we went on to the pond at about 10 am. It was a relatively nice day though it was a bit cloudy early in the morning and their was minimal wind. *Red is week 4* We made some very interesting discoveries this time out. We noticed that there are essentially 3 different sections of the pond. The pond is most likely not homogenous and there may be 3 different areas of the pond that don't mix with each other(the surface, mid pond, and deep pond. We do think that there could be another stream of water coming into the pond at around 8 meters. In the deep pond after about 8 meters we see a drop in almost everything including temperature, salinity, conductivity, and total dissolved solids. This shows us that the deep pond is not circulating with the rest of the pond further solidifying our thoughts and observations that the deep pond is not mixin

This was our third day out at Siders Pond collecting data from the pond. The data from this day shows similar trends as the past two days. Though we have been having slight issues with the sensor leading us to believe the dissolved oxygen of the pond may be a bit skewed. We had replaced the oxygen sensor on the meter to see if we would get more accurate readings compared to last week. The readings for oxygen stayed relatively similar, so we are thinking about changing the meter itself to see if that would change the oxygen readings that we have been getting lately.  Though unlikely the data could be true, but to be safe we will have to see the data from the fourth week to be completely sure.  *Green is week 3*  We have seen some interesting warming going on in the pond each time we go out.  Siders Pond Day 2 We went out on to the pond for a second day on July 12, 2022. We calibrated in the lab so we were good to just head out on the water. It was a lot windier this day, but we were still able to get onto the pond in relatively the same area as the first day. We again collected data down to the floor of the pond which was about 11 meters deep. It was interesting to see what type of data would be produced on this day and how it would differ from day one because of the different elements that may be at play. *Data for this day is orange* *Blue is last trip* The data we found this time out was fairly similar with a couple of changes. One of the changes I observed was that the dissolved oxygen content in the water was different the second time than the first time. Though both times the oxygen stayed about constant under 4 meters on this day the oxygen was higher than the first day. Siders Pond  On July 7, 2022  we went out to Siders Pond and collected some data on the pond using a multiparameter temperature water proof meter. It was a relatively clear day with minimal winds. Before getting on the water we made sure to calibrate the device to ensure we got the most accurate readings. We collected data for about 12 meters of the pond.   There were some interesting trends with this data as well. The pH turned out to be almost identical to the percentage of dissolved oxygen, which was very interesting. The data has showed us that the oxygen and pH drops dramatically after about 2 to 3 meters. This makes sense as the deeper down you go there would be less sunlight meaning less photosynthesis from plants, but organisms are still consuming oxygen. Meaning that respiration is out competing photosynthesis, and when carbon dioxide is dissolved in water it makes it more toxic which is why the pH drops as well.
