Siders Pond Data

Siders Pond

On July 7, 2022 we went out to Siders Pond and collected some data on the pond using a multiparameter temperature water proof meter. It was a relatively clear day with minimal winds. Before getting on the water we made sure to calibrate the device to ensure we got the most accurate readings. We collected data for about 12 meters of the pond.

There were some interesting trends with this data as well. The pH turned out to be almost identical to the percentage of dissolved oxygen, which was very interesting. The data has showed us that the oxygen and pH drops dramatically after about 2 to 3 meters. This makes sense as the deeper down you go there would be less sunlight meaning less photosynthesis from plants, but organisms are still consuming oxygen. Meaning that respiration is out competing photosynthesis, and when carbon dioxide is dissolved in water it makes it more toxic which is why the pH drops as well. We are hoping to have more interesting findings like this the next three times we go out.
